The next journey for Master Chief and Halo fans will begin in 2014. Microsoft has confirmed that the next installment in the popular first-person-shooter franchise that changed the way people look at the genre will not be delayed and will hit store shelves this year.
Speaking on Twitter, Microsoft's Rob Semsey confirmed the news that fans can "Rest assured your next Halo journey WILL begin in 2014," adding the hashtag #staycalm.
Semsey's tweet comes in response to a list of 2014 Xbox One games coming soon that was posted on the Xbox Wire earlier on Monday that included "Titanfall," "Watch Dogs," "Project Spark," "Sunset Overdrive," "The Division" and many more. Absent from the list was the new Halo game. According to Semsey, in a separate tweet, Halo was only absent from the list because the official title of the game has not yet been announced, meaning it would have looked awkward on the Xbox Wire post.
According to IGN, the next Halo was originally teased at this year's E3 gaming conference. It had no title then but small details were given about its 2014 launch over time. For example, 343 Industries said that Master Chief's next adventure will run at 60 frames per second and will have dedicated servers for multiplayer use. It was later revealed that the game will be led by Timothy Longo, previously the creative director of 2014's "Tomb Raider" and "Star Wars: Republic Commando" games.
So far, precious little is known about the new Halo game other than that it will be coming in 2014. At E3, 343 Industries debuted a teaser trailer that featured both the Promethian as well as Cortana's memory chip. This has led many to the assumption that the plot will continue to break in the direction of those two storylines, established in the fourth Halo game from 2012.
