Have you ever wished you could have the Halo universe at your fingertips? Well, thanks to Microsoft's new game "Halo: Spartan Assault" you can, literally.
The new single-player Halo game is the first to depart from the Xbox console and go straight to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. The idea comes along with many efforts by Microsoft to make the Windows 8 operating system more appealing.
The release of a new Halo game could convince some who have played the previous games to make their next phone a Windows phone in order complete the latest installment in the Halo franchise.
The game takes place between Halo 3 and Halo 4 and tells the story of the emerging Spartan Ops program and reveals more about the Human Covenant Wars. "Spartan Assault's" official website reads: "Play through the eyes of either Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity as they fight never-before-seen battles against Covenant forces."
Unlike the other games in the franchise, "Spartan Assault" is not a first person shooter but rather an arcade style shooter with the camera mounted above. In a blog post to announce the game, Microsoft revealed the game is playable across multiple platforms.
In other words, you can pause "Spartan Assault" on your Windows Phone and pick it up again on your PC or tablet right where you left off. Trophies won in game can unlock items for your Spartan avatar in Halo 4.
This isn't the only big news from Microsoft about the Halo franchise. Last month the company announced it was planning a live action Halo TV series available on Xbox Live. Acclaimed director Steven Spielberg has signed up as the executive producer.
Below is a trailer by Microsoft for the new Spartan Assault game from their announcement blog post today. The trailer features both game play and cinematics from the newest installment in the Halo franchise.
