Halo Video Game to Become Live-Action Television Series, Produced by Steven Spielberg

The world of Halo will now become a live-action television series, Microsoft announced Tuesday, according to E! Online.

The series will be produced by Steven Spielberg exclusively for Xbox Live. The announcement for the series came with the unveiling of the new video game console.

"The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and myth-making meet to produce something truly groundbreaking," Spielberg said in a pre-recorded video statement played during Microsoft's official revealing of the Xbox One.

Halo is a multi-billion dollar video game franchise, now managed by 343 Industries. The science fiction based game centers on a war between humans and aliens, using real-time video game strategies. The impact of the game on popular culture has been compared to the "Star Wars" craze. And now the series will go in to further storytelling territory, giving Master Chief yet another realm for spotlight.

The Halo series has been portrayed in comics and books, but film prospects have been halted. The film, to be allegedly directed by Peter Jackson, got tied up in legalities involving Universal and 20th Century Fox. Rumors swirled that Spielberg had expressed interest in directing the film.

The series also produced an original soundtrack for "Halo: Combat Evolved" that was written and composed by Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori.

"Halo has always been more than a game," Bonnie Ross of 343 Industries said during the series announcement, according to E!.
