Google's risk taking and experimentation may result in the company losing a lot of its consumers. Google's latest bid to change the interface of its Gmail has left many disgruntled users, reports Los Angeles Times
The latest update on the Gmail interface comes shortly after Google announced to shut down its Google Reader effective from July 1. Users raised many concerns over the decision, pleading to the company not to retire Google Reader but it went unnoticed and now Gmail users have a new way of composing mail through their web accounts.
"[W]e're now ready to introduce the new compose experience as the default for everyone," Phil Sharp, a product manager on the Gmail team, explained in a blog post on Thursday. "We're looking forward to hearing what you think!"
Many Gmail users did not approve of the new way of composing emails on their web accounts, but had no option to decline as Google will be setting the new change as default for all users. The new change in composing an email will no longer open another page but will open a pop-up window on the right hand side corner. Annoyed users took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter, to vent their frustration and disapprove the new interface for Gmail.
Few tweets from users expressing their anger about the change are listed below:
"I would like @gmail to change their compose mailbox... back to THE ORIGINAL COMPOSE MAILBOX! New tiny corner email is the worst :(," @barelysarcasm wrote on Twitter in response to the change.
"Not a huge fan of the new compose window in #GMail - I want to see the email addresses, not just the names. + I want to use the whole screen" wrote another user @JeroenDeDauw.
@nelson wrote, "I hate being forced into Gmail's new, worse email compose tool. Box is too small, hides (but includes) quoted mail on reply."
"#Gmail's new compose window: more similar to an instant messaging service than an email service. Really sure that this is a good thing?" wrote @sigisbaldo.
Many users want the old way of composing email, which has been removed from several accounts already. Users can continue to use the new option to get a hang of it or switch to the older version temporarily by following these steps below.
Select Compose and press the downward arrow on the right corner of the new pop-up and select "Temporarily switch back to old compose".
