Looks like Lil' Wayne is pulling a Jay-Z on us.
The "Hands Up" rapper sat down with Katie Couric on Monday for a lengthy interview in which Wayne stated he'd be done with the rap game by the time he reaches 35 years old.
"You've said you want to retire by the time you're 35, because you really want to focus on your kids," Couric started, beaming at Lil' Wayne. "You're 30 now, so, what are you most looking forward to when it comes to having more time with them?"
"Whatever they want to do," he replied without pause. "I don't want to have no influence...'Hey you must do this, you must do that.' Because I didn't have that and I grew up to be exactly what I wanted to be and how I wanted to be. I want that for all of my kids... I know I'll be ready to retire at 35 because I am so ready to retire now!"
Lil' Wayne also discussed his addiction to syrup during the interview, admitting that he has an "excessive" personality. Doctors were under the impression that Lil' Wayne might have had epilepsy earlier this year, after the rapper suffered a series of seizures. During that time, his physicians suggested he cut back on the lean to help them figure out where his seizures were coming from.
When Couric asked if Wayne was still sipping, he replied, "No, I can't... I was doing too much."
Wayne has said that he wanted to retire early before - last year, the rapper said that his 17-year-long career would come to an end when he turned 35.
"This is what happens when you work very, very hard," he said in an interview with Hot 97. "People think that when you say you work hard, they think you put two extra hours in. This is my life. That's why retiring at 35 would be a life lived, because this music thing is my life. So retiring at 35 would be enough."
So now, the question is this: will Lil' Wayne actually bow out of the rap game for good, come 2018?
Or will he fake a "Kingdom Come" move like Jay-Z and release an album post-retirement claim? Either way, the rapper is still going strong as of late - he recently released his 'Dedication 5' mixtape that was met with high fanfare.
