As the death toll in clashes between Pro-and-anti-Morsi protesters increases every day, Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour Thursday vowed to put an end to the ongoing violent clashes and chaos in the country.
"They want this period to be an introduction to violence and blood, and we want it to establish for the concept of protecting lives and human rights," said Adly Mansour in his first national address since taking over as Egypt's interim president.
In his eight-minute pre-recorded video-message that was broadcast on state television, he said the military-backed interim government won't be "scared or terrorized", adding the new government was committed to maintaining the security and stability of the country.
"We will go through the battle for security to the end. We will preserve the revolution," he said. "History will not turn around."
The video message came at a time when the ousted President Mohamed Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood declared they would be holding more massive protests on Friday.
The Muslim Brotherhood members have rejected the interim government, demanding Morsi's reinstatement.
Washington last week broke its silence and urged the military backed interim government to release the ousted president from his detention. He was placed under house arrest on July 3.
European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, who was in Egypt Wednesday, also urged the release of Morsi if there were no charges against the ousted president.
"I believe he should be released. I was assured he is well. I would have liked to see him," said Ashton while expressing regret that she couldn't meet him in person.
U.S Deputy Secretary of State, William Burns, was also in Egypt recently and met with leaders of the interim government and urged the new government to hand over power to a "democratically elected civilian government."
Dozens of lives have been lost in a series of clashes between Pro-and-anti-Morsi protesters in the last few weeks.
