Following her dad's passing last month, Demi Lovato is working to honor his memory.

The "Heart Attack," singer has teamed up with Cast Recovery, a holistic wellness program, to create The Lovato Treatment Scholarship, which will help provide services to those seeking treatment for mental illnesses.

"My dad suffered from mental illnesses," Lovato told E! News. "He was suffering so bad that he couldn't function in society normally and he couldn't get the help that he needed. So, when he passed away, I thought to myself, 'I wish there was something I could have done.'"

After his passing, Lovato thought it was too late to make amends.

"And then I realized, 'Actually, it's not too late,'" she said. "He wasn't a bad person, I didn't have the best relationship with him and for so many years I was mad at him, but when he passed away I realized none of it was even his fault."

Lovato, who penned a song called "For The Love Of A Daughter" about their troubled relationship, also admitted to suffering from her own psychological issues.

"Even before Barney, I was suicidal. I was seven," Lovato recently told Cosmopolitan of her struggles as a young actress on the popular children's show. "I've talked about being bullied and the years of being a teenager, but I went through things when I was younger that I've never talked about that probably caused me to turn out the way I ended up turning out."

Now Lovato hopes to help those who are suffering.

"I partnered with Cast Recovery and together we are... teaming up to provide the services that one person will need to get through treatment," she said. "Because treatment is actually very, very expensive. And whether it's rehab or in-patient, out-patient-whatever it is-I want to be there providing that service because I didn't get the chance to do it with my dad and I want to make it up to him now that he's looking over me."

Details of her father's death have not been released.

Lovato is also currently filming auditions as a judge on the upcoming season of "The X Factor."
