A delegation of Indian parliamentarians raised the temporary foreign workers' permit, H-1B visa, issue with the lawmakers of the U.S.

The Indian delegation of seven members under the aegis of India-U.S. Forums of Parliamentarians of the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry met with the co-chairs of the Senate India Caucus, Senators Mark Warner and John Cornyn as well as co-chairs of the House Congressional Caucus, Congressmen Peter Roskam and Joe Crowley.

According to the Press Trust of India, the Indian delegation strongly raised the issue of H-1B visa.  The delegation said the new immigration reform bill will not only hurt the Indian companies but also "U.S.-India relationships."

The U.S. India Business Council in recent times has been urging the two countries to consider economy as the centerpiece of the relationship between the two countries and consider "free movement of technical professionals" as vital as the "free movement of manufacturing."

The Indian delegation of parliamentarians also met with Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi as well as the only Indian American lawmaker Ami Bera, and Tulsi Babbard, the first Hindu Congresswoman in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Deputy Secretary Burns reviewed bilateral relations and regional priorities with the parliamentary group and welcomed the strong political support from across the political spectrum in the United States and in India for advancing US-India relations," the State Department said in a statement following the Indian parliamentarians' visit to the Capitol Hill.
