Cory Monteith's Mother Opens Up About Son's Death For The First Time

In an interview with Good Morning America, Cory Monteith's mother opened up about her son's death for the first time, calling the loss "horrendous."

The untimely death of "Glee" star Cory Monteith broke the hearts of many, especially his mother Ann McGregor and girlfriend Lea Michele. While Michele has been very vocal about how she's been coping with the loss, Monteith's mother didn't publicly address the incident. Now, more than a year after his passing, McGregor finally opened up about her son's death in an interview with Good Morning America.

The 63-year-old lady said that she's still not comfortable talking about the night of Monteith's death. However, she was more comfortable talking about his past and his first "Code Blue" experience. Code Blue is a hospital emergency code indicating that an individual needs immediate medical attention, typically relating to cardiac arrest.

"[When] Cory was 15, he did a Code Blue," she said, according to News.com. "I think that was the turning point. He had a lot of emotional things he was trying to figure out. A lot of it was he really wanted a relationship with his father. I think when a child gets invalidated they keep reaching even harder."

"They want to find out why. I remember after Cory's first OD, the drive we took, and all we did was stare into his eyes and hug him and look at him, because I had this feeling: I really wanna know him because I'm not going to have him my entire life. That was way back then."

Though she says Monteith had planned to move back home to Vancouver, the grieving mother does not blame Hollywood for his passing.

"I don't think blame is a good thing to do," she said, according to ABC News. "No, that was his choice."

She also said that she's still in touch with Michele via emails and text.

"She texts me and emails me," she told GMA. "She's hurting, too. You see the sadness. I know her pain."

Marking his first death anniversary, the "Glee" actress took to her Twitter account to post an emotional tweet, earlier this week. She also attached a photo of Cory. The photo is clearly a personal one, which is a close up of Cory taken at sunset.

Recently, the late star's father Joe spoke to Entertainment Tonight Canada about the loss of his son.

"I still miss him very much and I still have the empty feeling," he said. "Cory was a likeable young man and if he was in the room, you'd be smiling. He enjoyed life. That's why I was so shocked about the outcome of everything.''

Joe admitted that McGregor, whom he divorced in 1989, did not invite him to attend his son's funeral ceremony. The actor's mother held a private viewing for her son before he was cremated - only inviting Michele and his brother Shaun.

At just 31 years old, Cory was found dead from a toxic alcohol and heroin mix in a Vancouver hotel room last year. His loss is still deeply felt by fans and peers alike.
