A man who is suspected of shooting and killing a college student from New Jersey who was attending school in Nashville last year was indicted on a murder charge this month, according to the office of the prosecutor, which confirmed the report on Tuesday.

Jillian Ludwig, a student at Belmont University, was shot in the head by a stray bullet at a park close to the college in November 2023, according to the Nashville District Attorney's Office. Shaquille Taylor, who is 29 years old, is charged with murdering Ludwig.

Nashville Shooting Prompts Mental Health Law

The current death of Jillian Ludwig, a Belmont University student who was fatally shot in Nashville, has sparked renewed exchanges about mental health laws. This comes after it was disclosed that the suspect, Shaquille Taylor, had been released earlier due to being deemed mentally incompetent.

The law, which was thereafter referred to as "Jillian's Law," was initially sponsored by Representative William Lamberth as a memorial to the memory of Judge Ludwig, according to Local12.

Murder Accusation in Ludwig Case

As a consequence of the accusation that was handed down on March 6 for criminal murder and evidence tampering in connection with Ludwig's death, the intricacies of mental health issues within the court system were brought to public attention.
