Indiana National Guardsman Makes Court Appearance After Holding Explosives, Four Guns in Car

A member of the Indiana National Guard who was caught with explosives in his car made a court appearance on Monday.

Ohio police found guns and bomb-making materials in Andrew Boguslawski's car when they pulled him over for a speeding infraction earlier this year.

44-year-old Boguslawski didn't speak much during his Monday hearing. When asked if he had read the charge against him, he said he had. The Guardsmen did not have to enter a plea at today's appearance.

According to the Associated Press, law enforcement officials flagged Boguslawski's vehicle when they spied him ramming down Interstate 70 15 miles above the speed limit.

Upon searching Boguslawski's car, authorities said they discovered four guns, a remote detonation device and 48 explosives, AP reported.

Boguslawski, who was stationed at the Indiana National Guard training facility by Butlerville, Ind. reportedly told fellow troop members that he was keeping the explosives for training purposes.

A federal complaint was submitted against Boguslawski in January, after authorities argued that the bombs were dangerous, and could detonate at any moment.

"These explosions would produce blast, thermal effects and propel pieces of plastic at high velocities in all directions," a complaint filed by special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Timothy Burt read. "These devices would be capable of causing property damage and personal injuries and/or deaths to persons near the explosion."

Burt also stated that there was surveillance evidence of Boguslawski using the explosives near military personnel and civilians, AP reported.

Authorities said they found plastic bottles stuffed with "flash" powder - an explosive - as well as fuses in Boguslawski's vehicle.

Trooper William Scott Davis, one of the officers who pulled Boguslawski over in January, said he asked if the 44-year-old had any weapons. Boguslawski said he didn't, but the officer said he saw the butt of a gun sticking out from under his legs.
