The family lawyer for two Gilgo Beach victims questioned if the wife of alleged serial murderer Rex Heuermann had been in the area longer than police had believed, speculating that she could have even been there for one of the murders.

Rep. John Ray questioned Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney's timetable, arguing Ellerup may have been in town at the time of one of the killings. Ray represents the families of two Gilgo Beach victims, as per New York Post.

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK - JANUARY 16: Alleged Gilgo serial killer Rex Heuermann appears before Judge Timothy P. Mazzei with his attorney Michael Brown at Suffolk County Court on January 16, 2024 in Riverhead, New York. Heuermann has been indicted in the death of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes. Heuermann's arrest came more than a decade after the disappearance of four women whose bodies were found within a quarter mile of each other wrapped in hunting camouflage burlap along remote Gilgo Beach on Long Island's South Shore.

Tierney has consistently asserted that Ellerup was out of town during each of the murders allegedly committed by her husband. However, during a symposium at St. John's University in Queens, Ray challenged this assertion, presenting alternative information he obtained from a hotel manager. According to Ray, the manager claimed Ellerup and her children arrived in Atlantic City later than investigators believed, potentially placing them in town during at least one of the murders.

Such a discrepancy, if proven true, could significantly impact the case against Heuermann, raising concerns about the credibility of the entire investigation. Attorney Bob Macedonio, representing Ellerup, emphasized the potential ramifications, stating that if Tierney's information about Ellerup's whereabouts is incorrect, it could create reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case.

Macedonio vehemently denied Ray's claims and took proactive measures, sending a letter to the hotel demanding disclosure of any employee responsible for the alleged breach of his client's confidential information. Additionally, Ray asserted having a witness who purportedly met Heuermann and Ellerup at a "swinger party" in 1996-a claim Macedonio vehemently rejected.

Legal experts weigh in on the situation, with former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani questioning why the district attorney would argue a point they were unsure of, highlighting the potential complications if Tierney's statement proves inaccurate, according to WCSI.

Gilgo Beach Serial Killer Rex Heuermann's Case

Ray represents the family of Shannan Gilbert, whose disappearance in 2010 initiated the investigation that led to the discovery of 11 bodies along Ocean Parkway. The "Gilgo Four" Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello are among the victims, and their families are being represented by prominent attorney Gloria Allred.

While authorities, including the FBI and Suffolk detectives, have ruled out Ellerup and Heuermann's daughter Victoria as suspects in the murders, Ray's persistent claims raise questions about Ellerup's potential involvement. Heuermann currently faces charges related to four of the murders, and any doubts about the accuracy of Ellerup's alibi could have far-reaching consequences for the ongoing investigation.

The case against Heuermann gained momentum in 2022, with police linking him to the murders through various pieces of evidence, including a Chevrolet Avalanche owned by him. The prosecution alleges Heuermann made taunting phone calls to Melissa Barthelemy's family using her phone, steps away from his Manhattan office. Authorities have issued over 300 subpoenas, search warrants, and legal processes to gather evidence against him.

As the investigation unfolds, Ellerup's involvement and the accuracy of her alibi remain subjects of intense scrutiny, adding a layer of complexity to an already intricate and harrowing legal saga. The legal teams involved, including Ray and Macedonio, continue to present conflicting narratives, leaving crucial questions unanswered in a case that has gripped the nation's attention, Daily Mail reported.
