Former president Donald Trump on Wednesday urged allies in the US Congress to defund federal law enforcement institutions. He made the call one day after being arraigned in a New York investigation.
On his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump alleged that Democrats had "weaponized" law enforcement agencies.
"Republicans in Congress should defund the DOJ and FBI until they come to their senses," the ex-POTUS posted, as reported by The Hill.
Donald Trump's FBI/DOJ defunding call came the day after he arrived in Manhattan court for his arraignment in connection with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's investigation into Trump's potential participation in a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.
Donald Trump became the first former US president to face criminal charges after pleading not guilty in a Lower Manhattan courtroom. His court appearance was historic and subjected to strict security procedures, according to a previous HNGN report.

Donald Trump Delivered a Rundown of Charges Against Him
On Tuesday night, after Donald Trump's arraignment, the Republican leader gave a rundown of the investigations that have been made against him, per UPI.
At his Mar-a-Lago resort estate in Palm Beach, Florida, he called on Atlanta prosecutors to "drop" an investigation into his campaign to manipulate Georgia's 2020 election. He also denounced the FBI's probe into his mishandling of confidential materials after leaving the White House.
Moreover, Trump attempted to justify his conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, when his followers stormed the US Capitol during Congress' confirmation of President Joseph Biden's presidential election win.
NBC News reported that US Congress has until Sept. 30 to pass legislation funding the government, or else the government will shut down. However, an agreement is unclear since the parties have different agendas.
There is also uncertainty about whether the GOP's slim House majority would have enough votes to enact legislation making FBI DOJ defunding possible.
