Chinese scientist claims to devise a new stealth submarine technology developed by the PLAN which mimics water to avoid detection by US Navy.
  • Chinese acquired stealthy submarine technology, which lessens the chances of getting picked up by American sonar.
  • The ability to mimic water means it can evade and maneuver against submarine hunter aircraft and maritime vessels.
  • A tile-shaped device analyzes the sonar frequency and creates waves the exact opposite of it that sounds like water.

Chinese scientist claims to devise a new stealth submarine technology that mimics water if sonar hits the hull of the sub. All subs are invested in keeping up with the latest sub-killing tech and doing underwater hide-and-seek.

Chinese Navy Stealthy Submarine Technology

Bringing in high-tech tools and technology is the activity of most maritime powers to find and vanquish enemy subs.

This Chinese sub-tech is to be unseen and avoid detection at all costs avoid getting detected by hostiles. Such a system used the sonar of the searching sub that needs to ping any enemy submarine to get its location reported Eurasian Times.

A device that is tile-shaped will get the sonar ping and create soundwaves like it was water that fool operators, noted South China Morning Post.

Beijing Institute of Technology states that sound is low-frequency from the tiles, as loud as 147 decibels. It's so loud that it cancels active sonar used by its competitors. It can be applied to a subs outer hull to counter sonar beams from every angle that is smaller and thinner than a brick.

Such technology gives China a decisive edge against western opponents like the US. The US uses nuclear subs, but the PLA still uses non-nuclear submarines but developing more advanced nuke subs, to the chagrin of the US.

Submarines should be undetectable in the waters, but China has an ace against invading subs. Shallow oceans in the China Sea have choke points to pass before going to deeper water, cited Asia Nikkei. The US can operate submarines operation with deeper waters.

Chinese naval planners emphasize more stealthy subs in the Pacific region, and the Type-039C sub has a stealth shape, as mentioned by The National Interest.

Alleged reports in August 2022 say that the Type-039C (The Drive) is based at the East Sea Fleet. These maritime submarine bases are 500 kilometers south of Taiwan. It is close to a cluster of islands (Japan), a natural barrier to the Open Sea.

China's military expansion has caused expanded operations in the Indo-Pacific, with the AUKUS deal as a reaction to it. The PLA Navy's increase of its sub-force is a major drive for underwater stealth technology.

Submarine Technology Mimic Water

The most used submarine coating is the anechoic tile, remarked the researchers in Acta Armamentarii last month. A passive tile that absorbs sound is 2.8 inches thick and made of rubber or synthetic polymer. Best against high-frequency sonar and wavelengths less than its thickness.

There is a concern that long wavelengths and lower frequencies will be less effective. Development of the active tile with giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) is used to compensate.

Some aspects of the technology still need to be completed with complete details. Utilizing it for stealthy submarine technology to mimic water that is yet to be developed by the US.
