Alligators in New York City

In New York City, an abandoned alligator was barely moving and was found last Sunday. It was seen close to a lake in Brooklyn Prospect Park, wherein the 4-foot gator was in cold shock. Most reptiles cannot tolerate cold weather, and prefer warmer climates, cited CBS News.

The weather in New York City hit a low of 38 degrees last Sunday, which was unsuitable for the predator. These alligators need sunlight to be less lethargic this one and lie in mud holes. Most of these animals are found in the wetland areas in the southeast of the US, which opens up questions about how it got that far and how it impossibly ended up in an unlikely park in NYC.

Personnel of the park maintenance staff saw it in the lake, which prompted to call for assistance from Parks Enforcement Patrol and Urban Park to retrieve the misplaced animal. Details from the Department of Environmental Conservation say the lake's size is 55 acres and 7 feet deep. Several kinds of plants and fish live there too.

The death of an anonymous Florida woman who succumbed to a fatal 10-foot alligator attack while strolling her dog led to its capture.
