Xi Jinping Plans To Meet Vladimir Putin Ahead of Scheduled SCO Summit and G20 To Discuss Vital Issues

An earlier meeting that Xi Jinping will have with Vladimir Putin before the SCO summit and G20 will cover essential discussions in the events of the Indo-Pacific.

Changes in the geopolitical sphere have prompted Xi Jinping to meet with Vladimir Putin before the SCO Summit regarding important matters.

The Wall Street Journal mentioned the leaders of the two powerful nations are meeting before Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Central Asia last Friday.

West Looks at Moves of China, Russia 

This summit, which is expected to take place in the Uzbek city of Samarkand from September 15 to 16, had been revealed this week by Xi's office, said the sources, reported RT.

Along with Putin and the predicted arrivals of the leaders of Pakistan, India, and Turkey, officials have made preparations for prospective bilateral meetings with them.

The Russian leader will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit, the Kremlin announced in July. However, it is still unclear whether he will travel to Samarkand or participate via video link.

Some people who spoke to WSJ asserted that Beijing decided to incorporate the trip into Xi's schedule after failing to stop US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from flying to Taiwan earlier this year.

Meeting before the SCO and G20 summit, both Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin; need to thresh out what to do in the face of the West getting opposed to them.

Their trip to Central Asia would highlight the Chinese leader's intention to counter US pressure on Beijing, which is seen as a result of Pelosi's visit, by forging closer ties with nations that are not close to US allies, they said. This week, the trip was referred to by Russian President Putin as a provocation of China's sovereignty.

The G20 summit in Bali in November has been anticipated to host Putin and Xi's first face-to-face gathering from the start of Russia's offensive in Ukraine after Indonesian President Joko Widodo confirmed on Friday that both leaders would be in attendance.

Eight countries currently comprise the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a security group that addresses regional development issues: China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan. Along with Turkey serving as a dialogue partner, it also has Iran and Afghanistan as observer members.

Putin Invited to G20 Despite Objections From the West 

The attendance of the leaders of China and Russia at the G20 summit was confirmed by Indonesian President Joko Widodo to Bloomberg last Friday.

This announcement followed a phone call that started last Thursday between Moscow and Jakarta; it will be the first time the Russian leader will be in a room with other world leaders since the start of the special operation in Ukraine, mentioned Azerbaycan 24.

Furthermore, since Indonesia holds the presidency of the G20, preparing for the group's planned summit in Bali was also discussed.

Moscow confirmed the Russian leader's attendance at the summit in Bali more than a month ago, but it was unclear whether he would be present in person or via video link.

The Russian Foreign Ministry remarked that the format of his participation might change based on how the global situation and the sanitary-epidemiological environment in Southeast Asia develop.
