Former U.S. Representative Gabby Giffords is writing a book on gun control, the Associated Press reported this week.
The ex-Arizona legislator is reportedly working with her husband, former Navy captain and astronaut Mark Kelly, to pen, "Enough: Our Fight to Keep America Safe from Gun Violence."
Giffords, who survived a gunshot wound to the head three years ago, told AP the book is based on an essay she wrote for the New York Times in April, 2013. The article responded to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings that left 20 children and six members of staff dead in Newtown, Conn.
Giffords' husband Kelly explained the writing process in an official statement released Tuesday by Scribner, the publishing house issuing the book.
"'Enough' was one of the first words Gabby said to me after we learned about the Newtown, Conn. massacre," Kelly wrote. "As Second Amendment supporters and gun owners ourselves, we hope our book rouses the long-overdue conversation our country needs to make responsible changes to our gun laws so that no more precious lives are lost."
Scribner reps told AP the book is ready to go for a June release.
This isn't Giffords and Kelly's first collaborative literary work - the two previously penned "Gabby: A Story of Courage, Love and Resilience," the narrative of Giffords' journey to recovery after being shot in the head.
Giffords posted a video earlier this month of herself driving for the first time since she was shot three years ago.
The 43-year-old suffered a severe gunshot wound in January 2011, when a shooter opened fire at a "Congress on Your Corner" meeting in Tucson, Ariz. Six people died from the incident.
