5 Shot at Crab Festival: 4 Wounded and One Killed in Levy County

A news release from the Levy County Sheriff’s office says five individuals were shot Saturday at the “Crab festival” in an area outside of Williston, Florida, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Among the five individuals who were shot was 36-year Barry Barney who died from a fatal bullet.

The “Crab Festival” is not in any way related to its name, said deputies. The “festival” is actually a series of hip-hop parties that are usually made famous through underground advertising and social media.

The Sheriff’s Office added that there have been reports of violence at the “festival” in the past. Due to the history, the Levy County Department of Public Safety was ready for any incidents. Ambulances and a medical helicopter were placed around the area. However, when the shots rang out, the large crowds made it difficult for the emergency staff to reach those who were injured immediately. Authorities and medical staff had to make their way through the maze of people walking and dancing.

The press release reads:

The large crowds made it impossible for ambulances to reach the wounded. Despite the large crowds walking and dancing in the roadway, Deputies and EMS personnel were able to evacuate the victims in law enforcement and private vehicles. Barney was taken to a local hospital by air, but died en route to the hospital.”

According to WCBJ ABC News-20, 19-year old Devonte Tremaine Ocasi was arrested in Marion County for the shootings. He has been charged with attempted first degree murder, possession of a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm, and discharge of a firearm with injury. Authorities are looking into a second shooter and offering a reward for information in the shooting.
