George Zimmerman's Lawyer Mark O'Mara Faces Unspecified 'Ethics Inquiry' from Florida Bar Concerning Trayvon Martin Case

An unspecified ethics inquiry filed against George Zimmerman's lawyer Mark O'Mara concerning his handling of the murder case of Trayvon Martin is still pending, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

O'Mara confirmed in a blog post that the Florida Bar's inquiry filed last year arose while O'Mara was trying to decide how to launch a social media campaign and legal fee fund for client Zimmerman.

"I am certain that the matter will be closed shortly, and that the conclusion will suggest that we handled these new and novel approaches in an appropriate and ethical way," O'Mara wrote on his site, omaralawblog.com.

The Bar confirmed to the Sentinel that the ethics complaint did, in fact, involve O'Mara, but couldn't give more information on the case.

O'Mara wrote in his lengthy post that he'd asked the Bar for advice on how to set up two campaigns online - one for Zimmerman's various social media platforms and another concerning a donation fund for his legal fees. The Bar then conducted interviews with O'Mara, asking for details on his plan for management.

"We responded promptly and to The Florida Bar's satisfaction, and the entire matter was deferred until after the trial," O'Mara wrote. "Not only have I done nothing wrong...I think we also set the standard for how these matters should be handled in future high-profile cases that warrant such measures."

O'Mara was the lawyer of George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of all murder charges in the case of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin, who Zimmerman fatally shot in 2012.
