Former Washington Redskins quarterback and Heisman Trophy-winner Robert Griffin III took the league by storm his rookie season, leading the Redskins to the postseason and winning the NFL's rookie of the year award during the 2012 season.

Much has changed since his incredible rookie season, as injuries and poor play have landed him on the free agent market. Multiple teams are becoming interested in the former second overall pick in the 2012 draft, and the San Francisco 49ers are reportedly expected to pursue Griffin should they trade quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The 49ers won't be the only franchise interested in Griffin, as the New York Jets are reportedly scheduled to meet with him today. The Jets and free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick are reportedly far apart in contract negotiations, but the team will reportedly still want to re-sign him even if New York is able to land Griffin.

The Jets have made some significant moves since the league year officially started Wednesday, signing running backs Matt Forte, Khiry Robinson and retaining Bilal Powell all at reasonable rates. The Jets finished with a 10-6 record during the 2015 season and were clearly one of the most improved teams in the league under first-year head coach Todd Bowles.

Fitzpatrick was clearly a big part of their success last season, as he posted career-highs in yards (3,905) and touchdowns (31). While the Jets playmakers in wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker were big reasons for his success, it's hard to imagine the team will let him walk after an impressive season. The Jets still want to sign Fitzpatrick despite meeting with Griffin, as they would reportedly likely keep Griffin as his backup.

Reports have surfaced that Griffin would like to join the Rams in Los Angeles, but there has been no indication that the Rams are interested in him. Griffin is arguably the biggest question at the quarterback position on the open market as he has proven he can play in this league, but has been inconsistent and injury prone throughout his career. Some believe the Jets' move in bringing Griffin in is a leverage play, as they look to get a deal done with Fitzpatrick, but nothing is confirmed at this time. The quarterback market has been all over the board since the start of free agency, and things may have only gotten more complicated as the Jets are now in the fold for Griffin.
