Robert Griffin III ‘Very Much’ Interested In L.A. Rams In NFL Free Agency

Jeff Fisher thought he had solved his quarterback issues when he swapped out the oft-injured Sam Bradford for Nick Foles last offseason. It was Fisher's hope that he would no longer have to deal with not knowing when Bradford would be able to suit up in a given week or the lackluster performances of his many would-be replacements. However, things did not go as planned.

Foles floundered in his starting gig for the Rams, going 4-7 as the starter and posting a dreary 69.0 passer rating. The Rams placed a first-round tender on Case Keenum this offseason, making him the de facto starter for the 2016 season, but Fisher and GM Les Snead would be wise to bring in some competition.

Enter Robert Griffin III.

RGIII is reportedly "very much" interested in playing for the Rams in Los Angeles. Now just because there is interest doesn't mean this is a slam dunk for either side. Griffin has dealt with a litany of injuries since college and his style of play will subject him to further punishment going forward. Also Fisher, who is good friends with Mike Shanahan, isn't going to forget about RGIII's public spats with coaches or his benching due to poor play.

But Griffin, at his best, offers more upside than any of the other free agent quarterbacks still on the market. In Los Angeles, he wouldn't be asked to carry the team if he won the starting job. Instead, the Rams would continue to rely on impressive sophomore running back Todd Gurley - who won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year - and one of the most fearsome defensive fronts in the league. In terms of reviving his career, those are all crucial ingredients in the recipe.

Though it has been four years, no one has quite forgotten about Griffin's breathtaking rookie season in 2012 when he and Redskins running back Alfred Morris combined for 2,431 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in the zone-read offense. Washington's dominant ground game at the time helped to open up the passing offense for Griffin, who threw for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns against just five interceptions.

Of course, that was followed by a cascade of injuries, repeated media faux paus and an overall regression. But together, Griffin and Fisher could help each other find some long awaited redemption.
