Maine Zumba Instructor Running Prostitution Ring Out of Exercise Studio Released Early From Jail

A Zumba teacher who was found guilty of running a prostitution ring from her studio in Maine was released from jail on Saturday.

30-year-old Alexis Wright had served a little more than half of her 10-month sentence when she was let out this weekend, Reuters reported.

A spokesperson for the York County Jail in Alfred, Maine stated that Wright had exhibited obedient behavior and participated in many of the industry-related programs with little issues.

"She was released this morning," the spokesperson confirmed to Reuters.

When the small Maine town of Kennebunk first heard word of Wright and her accomplice Mark Strong's case, residents were stunned - the quiet area, home to about 11,000 occupants, had never seen anything like the covert operation fronted as an exercise studio. A lengthy list of men who comprised her client list - over 150 of them - mostly hailed from the neighborhood. Strong and Wright allegedly logged meetings with the clientele, which they did as a precautionary step, court papers obtained by Reuters reported.

Wright pleaded guilty to prostitution and conspiracy charges during the initial trial in March. She received a 10-month sentencing in county jail on May 31.

Wright also pleaded guilty to collecting federal aid illegally, evading taxes from the prostitution business' gains and lying on tax refund papers.

Strong was sentenced to 20 days in prison on grounds of prostitution promotion.
