Amazon Now Allows You To Gift Others An Amazon Prime Membership

Amazon customers can now gift their loved ones an Amazon Prime Membership to enjoy additional benefits while shopping on the website, the giant retailer announced Friday.

With the festive season fast approaching, companies have started offering customers different gifting options to make their holiday shopping experience easy and all the more pleasurable. Amazon too is leaving no stones unturned to ensure they make maximum profits during this time of the year.

In an announcement made Friday, the giant retailer revealed that their customers can now gift others an Amazon Prime Membership this Christmas. The benefits of having a prime membership in the United States include unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping on more than 15 million items, instant streaming of over 41,000 movies and TV episodes through Prime Instant Video and over 350,000 books to borrow through the Kindle Owners' Lending Library.

"Members have told us they want to give the gift of Prime and we are delighted to offer this new capability in time for the holidays," said Greg Greeley, Vice President of Amazon Prime. "Our customers can now give the convenience of unlimited two-day shipping to family and friends - it's a gift that can be enjoyed all year long. When you add in the huge selection of popular movies, TV shows and Kindle books already included in the membership, giving Prime is giving a year's worth of convenience AND entertainment."

Customers need to visit the Amazon website and purchase a prime membership by adding it to their shopping card along with other information like the recipient's email address and a delivery date. On the delivery date, the recipient will receive an email notification with redemption instructions to immediately start streaming quality digital content, borrowing books and shopping with fast, free shipping on millions of items. The annual prime membership is $79.

Prime was launched in 2005 and ever since Amazon has added a string of new benefits like increasing the number of items that are eligible for unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping, adding more eBooks to the Kindle Owners' Lending Library and the recent new feature, Kindle First, which provides Prime members the chance to read a book from Amazon Publishing in advance of its publication each month for free.
