A new survey implies that Pandora most listeners still prefer Pandora than iTunes Radio. While Apple is able to convince people to try its music-streaming service, the same group still keeps its Pandora account.
iTunes Radio is a pre-installed application in Apple devices running in iOS 7 only. The service is also available to users of iTunes desktop application can.
Canadian investment firm Canaccord Genuity conducted a survey with more than 800 iOS device owners. About 72 percent of them own devices running on the latest operating system
The researchers discovered that among the 800 plus iOS device owners, only two percent use iTunes Radio. About 36 percent have neither tried nor heard of iTunes Radio and 44 percent are listening to both iTunes Radio and Pandora – its greatest competitor.
Furthermore, among those who use iTunes Radio, only eight percent are using the application exclusively. About 40 percent of those with iOS 7 have tried iTunes Radio.
Considering different possible criteria for judging user satisfaction, Pandora appears to be preferred by most users than iTunes Radio.
Among those who participated, 78 percent gave Pandora a "positive" or "very positive" grade while only 66 percent of those who have used iTunes Radio did so. When participants were asked why they opt for Pandora, many said that the application plays the music they love listening to.
Pandora is now operating not just in the United States, but also in Australia and New Zealand – two countries where iTunes Radio will be released soon. Conversely, Pandora is not (yet) available in the United Kingdom and Canada.
Bloomberg reported that Apple is planning to expand the music-streaming service outside the U.S by 2014 targeting more than 100 countries. This may help the company be ahead of the game as Pandora has no plans yet to expand in other countries.
