Children are more likely to trust and believe things told to them by attractive adults than less pleasant looking people, a new study finds
Here's another advantage of looking good! Apart from being able to attract suitors and get away with just about anything because of attractive looks, researchers found that good looking people are also like by kids.
In a new study, Clark University and Harvard University researchers found that children trust attractive adults more easily than other less pleasant looking people. This way, an attractive adult may be able to get children to believe just about anything he or she tells them.
For the study, researcher examined the behavior of 32 children, both boys and girls, between the ages of 4 and 5. These children were shown pictures of 12 different women. Prior to the study, these pictures were rated from most attractive looking to least attractive by a group of 48 undergraduates.
At the end of the study, researcher noted that nearly all the children, especially girls, chose the more attractive women when asked who they thought would know the answer to a question.
"Children and especially girls have more trust in attractive faces, even though there are no obvious reasons why people with more attractive faces would be more knowledgeable about object labels," Igor Bascandziev from Clark University, said in a press release.
This is not the first time a study has highlighted the benefits of being good looking. A previous study revealed that better looking people are less likely to be taunted or bullied at work.
"Frankly, it's an ugly finding," said Brent Scott, associate professor of management and lead investigator on the study. "Although we like to think we're professional and mature in the workplace, it can be just like high school in many ways."
