Flickr for iOS Auto-Uploads Photos in Social Networking Sites

The Flickr for iOS app can now auto-upload photos straight to Facebook, Twitter, and many other social networking sites, according to a Tumblr post of Yahoo on Wednesday.

Flickr is an image hosting and video hosting website acquired by Yahoo on 2005 for $35 million. It is one of the popular personal photo sharing sites that researchers and photo bloggers use for social media purposes. It currently has 87 million registered users as of March 2013 with 3.5 uploaded photos daily on average.

Flickr is expecting to have more uploads now that iOS users can finally automatically upload images to their social networking accounts. However, the feature will only be available if the user has already upgraded their Apple software to iOS 7.

Users will need to activate the auto-upload feature upon installation. Once activated, all the photos from the gallery will be uploaded to Flickr’s handy cloud storage locker, wherein images are kept private until users change it to public.

The downside of some image hosting sites is the storage space. Flickr doesn’t have that problem because it offers cloud storage of up to one terabyte (1TB) which is more than enough to accommodate high-definition and full resolution photos.

Another improvement with Flickr is the method of uploading. Before, users used to upload photos manually from the iPod touch or iPhone, which could really be inconvenient. Even Yahoo attests to it. The all-new Flickr for iOS app offers auto-upload functionality, like what Google + Photos and Dropbox offers.

The updated Flickr for iOS also has an auto-straightening tool which enables users to crop, edit, askew, and crop images with just a click.

Though Flickr seems to offer nice things, it isn’t flawless yet. It still lacks iPad support. However, it has changed positively after 2012. The Flickr for iOS app which has new filters and editing tools launched August added by the recent improvements, is needless to say a “still more attractive app" for mobile photographers – amateur or professional.
