"Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn weighed in on the new and mysterious female Thor.

During an appearance on the "Adam Carolla Show," Gunn praised the new "Thor" writer Jason Aaron stating, "I actually know who that is. He's a nice guy. He's a good writer."

Marvel announced the new female Thor on ABC's "The View." Whoopi Goldberg offered her thoughts on the new woman taking over for the old Thor.

"It's a huge day in the Marvel Universe," Goldberg said. "Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he's no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That's right. Thor is a woman!"

However, fans shouldn't confuse the new Thor as the female version of the character. The new Thor is the only one who will exist in the Marvel Universe.

"The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription," Marvel editor Wil Moss said in a statement. "The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!"

"This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before," Aaron said in a press release.

Marvel also announced the new Captain America is Sam Wilson, the first African-American superhero introduced to the comics in 1969. Wilson is the former Falcon who would team up with Captain America throughout the comics' history.
