Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol Palin, won't be swapping vows with U.S. Marine Dakota Meyer this weekend.

The former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate made the announcement on Facebook on Monday, writing, "Bristol and Dakota couldn't be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding... unfortunately the announced celebration planned for May 23 will not be held."

Sarah does not mention why the celebration is off. Instead she says family members and close friends know they are welcome to share a great barbecue on the farm that day.

The announcement comes after rumors surfaced that Meyer, a Medal of Honor recipient, had a secret wife. According to Radar, a marriage license revealed that the 26-year-old soldier was married to a woman named Cassandra Wain. Meyer and Wain reportedly tied the knot in 2008, when he was 19, and allegedly divorced in 2010.

Sarah's Facebook post included a statement from Bristol, 24, addressing the rumors.

"Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives', Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement. Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers. As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you! - Bristol"

Meyer proposed to the former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant in March at a Rascal Flatts concert. At the time, Meyer posted a sweet picture of himself and Bristol to Instagram, writing, "I'm definitely the luckiest guy ever to be able to spend the rest of my life with @bsmp2 #shesaidyes"

"Our families couldn't be happier for Bristol and Dakota. We're honored to welcome Dakota into our family," Sarah wrote in a Facebook post hours after her daughter got engaged. "He's an American hero and patriot whose service to our country-like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients has been above and beyond the call of duty...Even more important is he's a good and kind man who loves Bristol and [her six-year-old son] Tripp and is loved by them."

Sarah's Facebook post was accompanied with a photo that read, "Trust in God's timing. It's better to wait a while and have things fall into place than to rush and have things fall apart." Her daughter shared the same picture on Instagram on Saturday.
