With a brand new single breaking records and a feature film set to debut in theaters this August, One Direction continues to hit it big in the world of pop music. In the September issue of Teen Vogue, the boys opened up about the fans and how they deal with media rumors and life on the road.
"We're humbled that so many fans have bothered," Zayn Malik, 20, said.
"I'm not going to be a prisoner in my room-and the fans weren't intrusive," Niall Horan, 19, said. "I don't see how you could get used to people screaming in your face. Anyone who says different is lying."
The fivesome, who first came together during the seventh season of U.K.'s "The X-Factor," said that they depend on each other to stay happy—and grounded—on tour.
"It could definitely be a lonely job," said 21-year-old Louis Tomlinson. "I wouldn't be able to do this if I were on my own."
Liam Payne, 19, added that despite the sold-out crowds and screaming girls, they've avoided getting caught up in the celebrity lifestyle. "We actually never sat there and made one," he said, talking about a list of backstage demands. "They bring us the stuff they think we like. We're not really that diva."
While the guys of 1D may not feel that high-profile, the media thinks differently. The boys are constantly getting press attention; a lot of which is unwanted.
"It's frustrating for them at times because suddenly stuff gets printed that isn't even true," said Morgan Spurlock, the director of their upcoming 3D flick, "This Is Us," mentioning a specific instance involving 19-year-old band member, Harry Styles.
"I saw an article that said, 'Harry Styles demands Taylor Swift be taken out of the movie.' By the time we started filming in January, they had already split up."
Despite that, the guys, who just celebrated their three-year anniversary as a band, certainly seem appreciative of what they have.
"3 years.. I honestly can't believe it. Thank you so much for everything," Styles said in a Twitter message to the fans. "We're so lucky to have you. You keep making it more and more fun."
"This Is Us" hit theaters Aug. 30.
