Apple Testing Bigger Screens; 13-inch iPads and 5.7-inch iPhones In the Works

A report from the Wall Street Journal stated that Apple Inc. and its Asian component providers are testing iPad and iPhone with bigger display versions.

A wider-screened iPhone has long been awaited and rumored due to increasing rivalry from hardware competitors like Samsung. However, this is one of the first specific assertions for a larger-sized iPad. Last March, an unverified claim about a 12.9-inch iPad model being in the works surfaced. WSJ‘s report points to a display “measuring slightly less than 13 inches diagonally.”

A report released on June claimed that Apple, Inc. and its merchants are experimenting iPhone versions with both 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch screens. With Apple’s possible release later this year of a new iPhone, with the same features as the iPhone 5, it seems like Apple’s 2014 iPhone will include considerable design changes. However, sizes of screens are not yet specified.

The 2013 iPhone update, nicknamed by many as the iPhone 5S, will comprise a better chip, an improved camera system, a fingerprint sensor and potentially a slow-motion camera mode.

As for larger iPad claims, as Apple moves forward in its post-PC scheme, and as Mac sales decline, larger iPads that could reinstate more Mac features seem believable.

In 2012, Apple vaguely enlarged the iPhone display dimension by increasing the screen to 4-inches diagonally. Apple also minimized the iPad by releasing a 7.9-inch model called the iPad mini.

As for this year’s iPad upgrade, the WSJ reiterates our earlier report that the next model will include similar display size, but in a slimmer and lighter package. That section of the report says a thin film” will be used instead of glass for the screen, and this seems to refer to the lamination process used in newer iPhones, iPad mini, and the latest Mac desktops and laptops.
