There's a new track by alternative rock band Pixies, almost nine years after they last released a single. Titled "Bagboy", the track has a video to go with it as well that shows a young man going all-out destructive inside a house. Besides smashing up things like a lamp and the cutlery, he also soaks in a tub of milk and fruit loops in one bizarre shot. The video is directed by Lamar + Nik.
Some of the lines that are chanted through the track are, "Cover your breath, cover your teeth, cover your breath, polish your speech." "The lyrics, coincidentally, were composed at a Starbucks Coffee in Harvard Square in Cambridge, about a hundred feet from where, 25 years ago, I composed some of the lyrics to an old Pixies song called 'Break My Body,'" said vocalist and rhythm guitarist Black Francis as reported by Rolling Stone. "The music for the song has been around for a few years. There are some demos I made with Joey and David a few years ago in Los Angeles, related to a film idea that still has yet to see the light of day, although work on the music continued."
"Bagboy" comes two weeks after the band announced the departure of their bassist Kim Deal. In a post on their Facebook page, the remaining members of Pixies had said, "We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best." Jeremy Dubs is the bassist on "Bagboy".
There is still no news regarding any new album by Pixies, though hopes might have been raised by the release of "Bagboy". Prior to this new track, their last single was released in 2004 and called "Bam Thwok". It celebrated the reunion of the band after an 11-year hiatus.
