N.C. Motel Deaths: Boy Found Killed in Same Room as Elderly Couple Two Months Prior

The North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountain town of Boone is a tiny but significant place, known for being the home of American pioneer Daniel Boone and a gateway to the Appalachian Mountains.

But Boone, N.C. might gain a reputation for being a spooky spot soon enough, as a series of curious deaths in a Best Western motel have perplexed local authorities.

On Monday, CBS News reported that an 11 year-old boy named Jeffrey Lee Williams was mysteriously killed at the Best Western Plus Ridge Plaza.

His 49 year-old mother, Jeannie Williams, was also injured, but survived the unspecified wounds she sustained.

The death was strange, saddening and emotional on its own-but just two months prior to the young boy's passing, an older couple was found dead in the very same room on April 16.

Investigators said that the two rounds of deaths seem unrelated, but are currently in the midst of an extensive look into the room itself. Could some features of the dwelling spot at the Best Western Plus Blue Ridge Plaza have contributed to the passing of these separate groups of people?

Police Sgt. Shane Robbins said that the motel poses no real threat to the general public and did not give more details to CBS News.

But according to Raleigh, N.C. news service WRAL.com, the Watauga County Health Department found traces of carbon monoxide at the motel. Robbins did verify that a natural gas heater used to warm up the indoor pool was located close by.

The two sets of victims' cause of death have not yet been released and the North Carolina health department branch has declined comment.
