Kansas City evened the series Wednesday night with a 7-2 win against San Francisco, a drastic turnaround from their Game 1 blowout loss.
"We showed them that we have fight in us, and I think they knew that already," said Royals designated hitter Billy Butler, via ESPN. "But we stepped up big there as a team, and that gave us some confidence."
Wednesday's game was also marked by a near fracas, when players from both teams cleared out of the dugouts as Royals catcher Salvador Perez and Royals relief pitcher Hunter Strickland got into a shouting match in the sixth inning following a homerun from second baseman Omar Infante.
The shouting match began as Perez neared home plate, but the umpires were able to keep both teams from getting into an all-out brawl.
"He started to look at me, so I asked him like, 'Hey, why you look at me?'" Perez said. "So he was telling me, 'Get out of here, whatever.' So I don't know. You don't have to treat me like that. Look at Omar. Omar hit a bomb. I didn't hit a bomb. I hit a double."
Strickland admitted after the game he let his emotions get the best of him.
With the series shifting to San Francisco, the Giants will send Tim Hudson to the mound in hopes of taking the first game at AT&T Park. He's coming off a no-decision on Oct. 14, when he gave up four runs on seven-hit ball to St. Louis.
He'll be opposed by Jeremy Guthrie, who's also coming off a no-decision after giving up a run on Oct. 14 against Baltimore.
