Pittsburgh (3-3) has been inconsistent the entire season and has yet to win two games back-to-back. Their 31-10 loss last week at Cleveland has some questioning whether this team is a playoff contender, although quarterback Ben Roethlisberger insists it's not time to panic.
"There's no time to panic," he said, via ESPN. "You guys are waiting for us to panic. We're not panicking."
Roethlisberger has just eight touchdowns this season, partly because he's been sacked 17 times through six games. While the offensive line struggles to protect the veteran signal caller, running back Le'Veon Bell said Roethlisberger's demeanor in the huddle hasn't changed.
"Ben is always a calm guy in the huddle," said Bell. "Obviously when guys aren't making plays there's a little bit of frustration about everything. But he's not throwing fits or tantrums about anything. He understands guys are going to make mistakes."
Things won't be any easier on Monday against Houston's defense, led by J.J. Watt and potentially bolstered with the return of rookie Jadeveon Clowney. If Clowney, who has been sidelined since Week 1 with a knee injury, does return, Texans cornerback Kareem Jackson believes the secondary will instantly benefit.
"It (would) help a lot," Jackson said. "Just going in the game knowing we won't have to cover as long. The guys we've had up front, they've been doing a great job thus far and to add (Clowney) is definitely going to make things that much better."
While Houston's defense has been OK, the offense has left much to be desired. Star running back Arian Foster has 513 yards already, but quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has struggled to move the offense and to protect the ball.
