Victoria Beckham Blamed For Rise in Medical Condition Dubbed as ‘Poshitis’

The always fashionable Victoria Beckham is rarely ever photographed without her signature oversized bag dangling from her arm. She has been credited with making the gigantic bags a fashion statement with many women following her lead and trading in their small purses for the big bags. Now scientists and some doctors warn that may not be a good idea. According to the Daily Mail, scientists claim that oversized bags could damage a person's health and are dangerous.

Carrying the big bag in the crook of your elbow like Beckham could result in torn muscles and inflamed shoulders, the website reports. Scientists have dubbed this new condition as "poshitis."

"Women may think that they are following a catwalk trend but they are storing up trouble," physiotherapist Sammy Margos told the Sunday Express newspaper. "We have seen a huge increase in shoulder and neck problems and killer heels can add to the pressure on posture."

Margos said the trend could result in repetitive strain injury and pain in the shoulder and neck.

"We have seen handbags which weighed a huge one-and-a-half stone (21 lbs)," he said.

New York Magazine claims this is not a new phenomenon. Last year Simon Doonan, Barneys creative ambassador, admitted to The Cut that he suffered from bicep tendonitis from carrying his Goyard man-bag.

Doonan told The Cut that he works out religiously and allowed them to trail him one of his daily fitness routines. He said one of the reasons he loves to work out is so he avoids some of the hidden dangers and injuries of fashion.

"I got tendonitis last year form carrying my Goyard man-bag," he said. "Can you believe? A fashion injury."

Even though Beckham is reportedly being blamed for this fashion medical injury, there is no record that she herself suffers from "poshitis."
