José Mourinho confirmed Monday that he will be returning to Chelsea as manager of the football club with a four-year contract. He will be moving from Read Madrid.
For all Chelsea 'True Blue" fans it is time to celebrate as José Mourinho returns to the football club for his second stint as manager. Mourinho confirmed Monday that he has signed a four-year contract with Chelsea after completing three years as manager with Spanish La Liga Football club Real Madrid.
Mourinho left Chelsea in 2007 after winning two consecutive titles for the club and with his return promises his fan similar achievements.
"I promise exactly the same things I promised in 2004, with this difference to help - which is I'm one of you," Mourinho reportedly told Chelsea TV. "In football, in my career I've had two great passions, Inter and Chelsea, and Chelsea is more than important for me. It was very, very hard to play against Chelsea and I did it only twice, which was not so bad."
Mourinho will also add three other staff to the team including Silvino Louro, Rui Faria, and Jose Morais. BBC reports that Mourinho will be holding a press conference June 10 at the Stamford Bridge where he will officially be presented as the new Chelsea manager replacing Rafa Benitez. Benitez guided Chelsea to third place in the Premier League and won the Europa League after taking over the club on a temporary basis last November.
Chief executive of Chelsea Football Club, Ron Gourlay, said that everyone at the club was looking forward to working with Mourinho again as he was and always will be a very important part of the club.
Mourinho too revealed how happy he was to return to the club and said that it was not at all a difficult decision to return to Chelsea. He said the decision was made in "five minutes" after he met the club owner Roman Abramovich.
Mourinho joined Chelsea in 2004 and won them two consecutive championship titles in 2005 and 2006. Much to the disappointment of the fans, he left the club in 2007 after having a disagreement with Abramovich over transfer budgets. He then went on to join Inter Milan
Talking about his departure from Chelsea, the Portuguese manager said that while it was a difficult decision for the club, he was able to achieve what he was aiming for at that point in his career by winning the league titles with Inter Milan and Real Madrid in Italy and Spain respectively. Mourinho also acknowledged that while he was away, Chelsea too won some important trophies and now that they're back together, it's a "great moment."
