Supergirl could be the latest DC character to hit the small screen as Warner Bros. teams up with “The Flash” producer Greg Berlanti to develop the series.

Deadline reports the Supergirl show is currently in development. Berlanti is also working with writer Ali Adler on the project, who helped him on his ABC series “No Ordinary Family.” Adler will be writing the script for the Supergirl show.

“The project is expected to be taken out in a couple of weeks and pitched to the major networks the way WBTV and DC did with their high profile Batman prequel Gotham, which landed at Fox with a big commitment,” according to Deadline.

“The Supergirl series had been in the works at WBTV for some time with Berlanti and Adler. Contrary to a report that was picked up by a number of outlets, Michael Green has had no involvement in the project.”

The DC show has already been pitched to major networks and has caught the attention of many outlets, but many details regarding the production remain unclear. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show could be an hour or half-hour, but will likely go by a name other than “Supergirl.”

It wouldn’t be the first DC show that goes by another name. FOX’s “Gotham” is a prequel to Batman’s story and is set to premiere this fall. CW’s “Smallville” was a Superman inspired show that had a 10-season run.

There has been a push for more female superhero films lately with Wonder Woman appearing in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” and Marvel’s Jessica Jones series for Netflix. There may be more female heroines showing up on the small screen soon.
