Details about Season 2 of HBO's "True Detective" have been slim, but recently HBO programming president Michael Lombardo dished on the upcoming season and confirmed that casting announcements will happen "in the next week."

There have been rumors that some pretty high-ranking Hollywood stars would be joining the show for its second season. Christian Bale, Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain have all been linked to the crime drama show, but so far, nothing has been confirmed.

"I think the truth of the matter is a number of people - talented, well-known actors - look for great writing," said Lombardo at the Television Critics Association press tour. "I think the people we will cast will be well-known names, but that wasn't the ambition."

Emmy-nominated writer and creator of "True Detective" Nic Pizzolatto told The Daily Beast that the cast has not been decided yet but revealed that Woody Harrelson (Detective Marty Hart) and Matthew McConaughey (Detective Rust Cohle) would not be returning.

"Everything has just been empty rumors so far," Pizzolatto said, referring to all the Internet speculation.

Pizzolatto said while he will miss the two characters, the "plan was always tell a different story" with each new season. The first season, which debuted in January 2014, followed Detectives Hart and Cohle during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana.

Pizzolatto also told The Daily Beast that Season 2 would take place in California and that "four [new] central roles" would be added.

"Creating new characters for Season 2 was the same experience as creating Rust and Marty," he said. "They didn't exist until I created them, then in their creation I developed a personal attachment to them. I think it's the same in anything you write. It's your job to come up with compelling characters who speak to an individual authenticity. If I'm not impressed in the characters I can't go on. I have to be fascinated by them. It's the same job as Season 1 to me."

"True Detective" Season 2 premieres in 2015.
