A Florida man suffered a horrible fate when he fell into a wood chipper and died while at his landscaping job on Monday.
The victim was working on a street in Davie when he fell into the wood chipper and was sucked through, NBC Miami reported. He was already dead when emergency responders arrived.
Davie Police carefully gathered the victim's remains from the tragic scene near Southwest 57th Street and Pine Island Drive.
"This isn't something you see every day," Davie Police Captain Dale Eagle told the station. "It's not something you can just go home and forget about.
"This is a gruesome scene," the captain added.
Joseph Horta, who lives right in front of where the accident occurred, recounted the shock he felt looking at the street after the worker fell into the wood chipper's teeth.
"You hear about this stuff in the movies, but then all of the sudden it happens right outside your door step," Horta told CBS Miami. "All the sudden I hear these sirens and I look outside and I see some piles of blood. It was horrifying."
It took officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, several hours to recover the remains from the chipper. Police do not yet know exactly how the victim fell, but for now his death is being called a "workplace accident."
Police are also withholding the name of the victim and landscaping company he worked for while they notify his family. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, with OSHA promising more information at a later date, NBC Miami reported.
One neighbor, Linda Simmons, said the landscapers usually trim the trees in the area every year.
"It's sad. The guys were working really hard and he just made a mistake I guess," Simmons told CBS Miami.
