Tougher gun control laws are being protested by hundreds of demonstrators across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.
Saturday's protest is being underwritten by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, one of the nation's most visible gun control advocates.
Gathered in downtown Brooklyn, about 1,000 activists will be marching across the bridge to City Hall.
Among the protestors will be relatives of some of those slain in the 2012 shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
After the protest walk is completed, the marchers will hold a demonstration outside the building's gates and chant "Not one more," according to the AP.
"Not one more" is the rallying cry uttered by Richard Martinez, whose son Christopher was shot to death in Santa Barbara, California, last month.
"Other speakers include Shannon Watts, who organized the group Moms Demand Action, the actress Amanda Peet, and the mothers of several gun victims," according to the AP. "Additionally, Erica Lafferty - whose mother Dawn Hochspring was the principal at Sandy Hook - is expected to address the crowd and call for tougher federal laws."
Moms Demand Action, Everytown For Gun Safety and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, who are all bankrolled by the billionaire former mayor, are among the several groups to be running the massive event.
Bloomberg, even after leaving office in December, has put in millions of his own money into the anti-gun cause and has continuously supported stricter gun control laws. He will not be attending the event.
His successor, Bill de Blasio, has praised Bloomberg's efforts but will not be attending the rally, according to the AP.
Seven people, including the shooter, were killed in Santa Barbara on May 23. Two people, including the shooter, were killed Tuesday at an Oregon high school, the second school shooting in a week.
