Wolf Blitzer Atheist: CNN Host Gets Surprising Answer After Asking Tornado Survivor If She 'Thanked The Lord' [VIDEO]

Wolf Blitzer was at the center of one of the more lighthearted moments following the Oklahoma tornado devastation that has left over 20 people dead.

The host of CNN's "Situation Room", faced a surprising change of direction while interviewing a survivor of the storm in Moore, Okla. In the dialogue they were both discussing the seemingly miraculous escape from a home that was completely leveled just minutes after a woman and her son (19-months old) were able to flee.

He asked the woman (identified as Rebecca) if she thanked God for her and her son's survival, and after a short, uncomfortable pause, she informed the anchor that she was, in fact, an atheist.

"You're blessed. Brian your husband is blessed. Anders is blessed... I guess you got to thank the Lord, right?" Blitzer asked.

The woman shrugged the question off the first time, Blitzer rephrased it and asked again: "Do you thank the Lord for that split-second decision?"

"I'm actually an atheist," the women responded.

The two laughed it off and she added, "We are here and you know, I...I don't blame anybody for thanking the Lord."

"Of course not," Blitzer said.

International Business Times reports that Rebecca has become an "atheist hero" for her candidness. One user on Reddit even sharing that he knows her, she is awesome, and "she has been very active in issues of religious freedom (for EVERYONE) in her community."

Blitzer, particularly respected among other reporters, journalists, and watchdogs groups received little criticism for his assumption on social media.
