A New Jersey woman who attended Boston College died on Thursday, after two taxis fatally hit her while she crossed an Upper East Side street with her stepsister.
22-year-old Brielle, N.J. resident Kelly Gordon was crossing York Avenue at East 84th Street at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night, when a cab moving southbound struck her, New York Police Department officials told NBC New York.
Another taxi in the opposing lane headed north then struck her again.
An eyewitness told NBC he'd just exited his apartment building nearby when he saw the two women get out of a cab, then get hit.
"She came out of a cab and the cab hit her and another one hit her," passerby Joel Okpala recalled.
According to Gordon's family members, the Boston College student was in the city doing interviews for prospective employment. She'd reportedly gone out to dinner that night to celebrate her successful meet-ups with potential employers.
Law enforcement and medical officials who arrived on the scene Thursday night reported that Gordon was unconscious when she was transferred to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. She suffered severe head trauma from the impact.
According to childhood friend Jillian Bucklew, Gordon, who was the oldest of five, had an enormous heart.
"She was so great and had so much going for her," Bucklew told NBC.
In a letter to Boston College student and staff, vice president of student affairs Barb Jones wrote in a letter on Friday that Gordon, who studied marketing and finance in the Carroll School of Management, was slated to graduate this year.
Police haven't yet arrested either of the taxi drivers, who stayed at the scene of the accident until authorities arrived.
