Detroit Tigers Evan Reed is facing a complaint of sexual assault after Detroit police Sergeant Michael Woody said the alleged victim is being interviewed, according to DetroitNews.com.
David Gorcyca, Reed's attorney, said he is very confident Reed will have "nothing to fear" once a thorough and full investigation is completed, DetroitNews.com reported.
Reed is in his second year with Detroit and has not been charged with any crime and is will be with the team on a five-game West Coast trip that begins Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to DetroitNews.com.
"During the infancy of this investigation, no one should formulate any conclusions that a crime has been committed," Gorcyca said in a statement, DetroitNews.com reported. "Mr. Reed is currently on a seven-day West Coast road trip and has not been contacted by the Detroit Police Department. We plan on cooperating with the investigation when the time is appropriate. Until then, no further comment will be made by me or Mr. Reed."
The woman told police she met Reed in a Royal Oak bar earlier March 30, and then didn't remember anything until she woke up later in the Motor City Casino hotel room, according to DetroitNews.com. The woman went to police two days after the alleged incident took place.
"The organization is aware of the very serious allegation that has been made against pitcher Evan Reed," Tigers officials said in a statement released Monday night, DetroitNews.com reported. "This allegation is concerning and we are aware of an ongoing investigation. It would be inappropriate for the ballclub to comment further at this time."
Reed, 28, joined the Tigers organization in April 2013 after being claimed off waivers from the Marlins, according to DetroitNews.com. Reed has given up two hits over 2 1-3 innings in two games this season. He was 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 16 games last year as a rookie.
