Fourth-seeded Michigan State has won five in a row now, including tournament wins against Delaware and Harvard. Part of their success is due to finally having a healthy roster, with all the key players available and with a few weeks of playing together under their belt.

"I do think we have taken giants steps in the last 2 1/2 weeks," Spartans coach Tom Izzo told the Associated Press. "We got our guys back. ... I thought the Big Ten tournament we did play awfully well. I thought we played well in Spokane.

"Are we back to the team we were then? Probably not, but are we as close as we have been all year? Definitely."

Izzo also spoke about the significance of playing in the storied Madison Square Garden.

"The Garden is like a building version of our guy Magic," Izzo said, referring to former Spartan Magic Johnson, who led the team to the national title in 1979. "I can talk about players and a lot of players I talk about, these guys weren't even born. But Magic, I can talk about him all the time and I think Madison Square Garden is like that."

First-seeded Virginia, meanwhile, won the ACC championship and carried their success into the NCAA Tournament with comfortable wins over Coastal Carolina and Memphis.
