Donald Trump is reportedly considering some high-profile Wall Street and Washington veterans as candidates for Treasury secretary if he wins the November election, according to a report.

Hedge fund manager John Paulson and investor Scott Bessent are at the top of Trump's shortlist, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The two are co-hosting a fundraiser for Trump in Palm Beach, Fla. on April 6. The event expects to raise more than $33 million for the campaign.

The fundraiser may indicate that Republican mega-donors are lining up behind the former president after many stayed on the sideline in recent years.

"There are a lot of Wall Street people who tried everything else and are in the process of coming back to the party and Trump," a Republican donor told the WSJ.

Others that Trump's allies are reportedly considering for the role include Robert Lighthizer, the former president's top trade adviser, former Trump administration Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Jay Clayton and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.

The report cautions that Trump is far from cementing his cabinet picks. He hasn't even decided on a vice presidential running mate yet.

Steve Mnuchin was Treasury Secretary during Trump's first term in the White House. He has said that he was interested in buying TikTok from the Chinese.

Current Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen helped guide the economy through a banking crisis after several regional banks collapsed last year.

Trump's campaign declined to comment to the WSJ for its article.
