The ex-mother-in-law of a Nevada congressional candidate has published a scathing opinion piece accusing her of "raising a murderer" and having a "scandal-plagued" past.

Christine Halseth published the piece about Elizabeth Helgelien in the Nevada Globe under the headline, "The Worst Congressional Candidate Ever?"

Helgelien was married to Daniel Halseth for 11 years. His mother says Daniel divorced Helgelien after he discovered she was "serially cheating on him" while she served as a state senator in Nevada. She later resigned from her seat.

Halseth died after his 16-year-old daughter Sierra and her boyfriend Aaron Guerrero stabbed him 70 times. The pair are serving life sentences for the killing.

In the op-ed, Halseth says Helgelien "raised a murderer and now wants to be a member of Congress."

Helgelien, 41, is running in the June 11 Republican primary for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, considered a pivotal race for control of Congress. The seat is currently held by Democratic Rep. Susie Lee

"Elizabeth raised a murderer, was forced out of office after a series of sex scandals, was caught in a series of lies, posed for lewd photographs, and has already proven to be unelectable," Halseth wrote.

Helgelien is described as a MAGA Republican. Her campaign website has a photo of her holding a military-style rifle.

She posted a photo of herself with Donald Trump on X last week with the caption, "Can't wait to see you back in the White House President Trump!"

She also said she would "deliver NV-03 for you!"

But Halseth wants Helgelien to "do the right thing" and drop out of the congressional race.

"We cannot, in good conscience, allow Elizabeth Helgelien to represent honest, decent Americans in Congress," Halseth wrote.
