Google is rolling out its Gemini AI on Bard, making the model available to the public as part of efforts to lead the artificial intelligence industry.

While the development marks a milestone in the tech giant's endeavors for the technology, only a sliver of Gemini AI is actually available right now. Future releases of the model are expected to include multimodal capabilities.

Google starts rolling out Gemini AI on Bard as part of its efforts to compete against GPT-4 and take the lead in the artificial intelligence industry.

This is where a chatbot processes multiple forms of input and produces outputs in a variety of different ways. Users who want to try out the publicly available version will have to settle with the text-based version on Bard.

Gemini is currently only available in the English language but Google is planning to roll out support for several other languages very soon. Similar to previous generative AI updates from the tech giant, Gemini is also not available in the European Union for now.

ChatGPT, while also available to be accessed for free using its older AI models, there is a monthly subscription to use the latest version, which is currently GPT-4. Details on Google's future plans for Gemini are still relatively kept secret, as per Wired.

The company previously teased that the model's further improved version, Gemini Ultra, could come out in 2024. It was said to also be initially available inside an upgraded chatbot called Bard Advanced. While no subscription plan has been announced so far, it might come somewhere close to ChatGPT Plus with GPT-4 which costs $20.

Users who want to try out the currently available Gemini model by simply go to the Bard website and log in. However, you have to have a Google account in order to access Bard and users of Google Workspace accounts might have to switch to their personal email to try out Gemini AI.

Despite the highly-anticipated rollout, users could expect to see some software glitches in their chatbot responses. One of the advantages of using Bard is its integration with other Google services.

Competing Against GPT-4

Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that one of the powerful things about this moment is that they can work on one underlying technology and make it better and it would immediately flow across their products, according to The Verge.

Aside from Bard getting Gemini Pri, Pixel 8 Pro users will be getting a few new features with the help of Gemini Nano. This was meant to be run natively and offline on Android devices. A third model is Gemini Ultra which is considered the most powerful LLM that Google has created so far. It seems to be designed for data centers and enterprise applications.

Gemini Ultra is said to be able to solve problems and "understand nuance and reasoning." On the other hand, Gemini Pro was designed for a wide range of general purposes while Gemini Nano aims to perform specific tasks.

Alphabet representatives were asked about the Gemini vs. GPT debate and said that they are confident their model could take on GPT3.5. However, they were a little bit more reserved when talking about comparing it to GPT-4, said TipRanks.
