AT&T Adds 13 Countries for 4G LTE International Roaming

AT&T announced Monday that it has added 4G LTE roaming in 13 more countries, in addition to Canada and UK as their first roaming partners.

The announcement was made at the 2014 Mobile World Congress Trade Show in Barcelona, Spain. However, even if everyone wants LTE to deliver faster data speed, wireless operators in each country use different wireless frequencies for this service. This means that devices that work on an LTE network in a certain country may not work on other countries that use different wireless frequency, CNET reports.

In Russia, AT&T has partnered with MegaFon. MegaFon's network operates onradio frequency Band 7. Compatible LTE devices include Samsung Galaxy Mega, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, Apple iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad Mini with Retina Display, and Nokia Lumia 1520.

AT&T has agreement with Bouygues Telecom for France, which operates on Bands 3 and 7. Compatible LTE devices include Samsung Galaxy Mega, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad Mini with Retina Display, iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 900, and Nokia Lumia 1520.

Meanwhile in Australia,iPad Mini, iPad Air, iPad Mini with Retina Display, iPad 5, and Nokia Lumia 900 are the compatible devices that can roam with Telstra's LTE network. AT&T has partnered with Telstra, which uses Bands 3 and 8.

AT&T advised customers planning to travel abroad to visit their AT&T Travel Guide to check their device' LTE availability and compatibility.In addition, they also have a new International Travel App, which provides customers an easy way of monitoring their wireless data usage while abroad.

AT&T is the first US wireless operator to allow its customers to roam into international LTE networks. The company recently partnered with 13more countries, namely, Spain, France, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Guam, Hong Kong, and Antigua & Barbuda. The company also plans to partner with more countries for LTE roaming.
