On Friday, a man on a shooting spree in Mississippi killed six people, including his ex-wife, at three separate places.

At least six people have been killed in a series of shootings in a small Mississippi town, according to authorities.

All the victims were killed in various areas in Arkabutla, Tennessee, approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles) south of Memphis.

Man Shoots Several Mississippi Residents

Three victims were discovered dead in two residences, while others were found at a shop, a vehicle, and on the road. Authorities verified that they are holding a single suspect. The Tate County sheriff's office recognized him as a 52-year-old resident.

He is being detained without bond at the county prison on a charge of first-degree murder, with further charges to be brought in the following days. Governor Tate Reeves of Mississippi tweeted on Friday that the suspect is thought to have acted alone, although his motivation is unknown, BBC reported.

The state bureau of investigation is assisting with the police probe. Sheriff Brad Lance said that the spree began when the shooter entered a business and shot a guy at around 11:00 local time (17:00 GMT).

Sheriff said he then proceeded to a nearby residence where he shot and killed a lady and wounded her husband. Lance said that the shooter then went to a residence thought to be his own and murdered two more persons.

After a brief automobile pursuit, deputies apprehended the guy in the driveway of another residence after spotting him in a vehicle matching witness descriptions. Near the other victims in the community of fewer than 300 people, police discovered two more bodies, one in a car and one on the road.

An eyewitness informed local media that the culprit was "clad in camouflage with a long rifle." During the incident, elementary and secondary schools in neighboring Coldwater were locked.

Ethan Cash, a 19-year-old neighborhood resident, said he had seen the armed man. Cash stated that he checked the pulse of the deceased passenger in his car.

According to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), Friday's tragedy was the 73rd mass shooting since the start of the year. A mass shooting occurs when four or more individuals are injured or killed.

Mississippi Shooting Suspect

Per CNN, Lance stated that deputies discovered multiple firearms and a shotgun in the suspect's vehicle. According to Lance, the suspect is being held at the Tate County prison, and charges are anticipated to be filed later on Friday.

Lance stated that motivation is yet unknown. In the inquiry, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is collaborating with local law enforcement, according to Bailey Martin, said a spokesman for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

Tate County is located in the northwest corner of Mississippi, around 30 minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee. Lance announced on Facebook that 52-year-old Richard Dale Crum was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. More costs are anticipated, he said.

The first 911 call was made at around 11 a.m., when the gunman parked into the parking lot of a convenience store in rural Arkabutla, some 45 miles south of Memphis. There, he reportedly shot and killed the car driver next to him without harming anybody else inside.

Crum briefly entered the business, then exited and drove to his ex-residence, his wife's, where he fatally shot her and violently assaulted her boyfriend. The sheriff stated that deputies apprehended him after they discovered a car matching the suspect vehicle's description in front of Crum's residence.

Authorities observed Crum attempting to escape the scene and arrested him, as per Crime Online. They discovered two shot-dead individuals in a car and on the road behind Crum's residence. According to the sheriff, a second individual was injured in the gunfire but was treated and discharged by emergency personnel.
