A Pennsylvania teen and her husband, who have been accused of killing one man and dozens of others, face the death penalty for the crimes.
Sunbury, Pa. police told USA Today on Monday that they believed 19-year-old Miranda Barbour and husband Elytte, 22, killed Troy LaFerrara in November. Law enforcement officials are currently trying to determine whether Miranda and Elytte also killed other people in different states who she met on Craigslist.
Barbour admitted to killing dozens across California, North Carolina, Alaska and Texas during an interview with the Daily Item.
Barbour said she and her husband killed LaFerrara November of last year, and would most likely kill again.
She revealed that she'd been raped as a young girl, and then joined a satanic cult in Alaska at the age of 13, USA Today reported. The first time she killed a person, one of the leaders of the cult made her pull the trigger on a man who was indebted to the organization.
"And then from there, I just continued to kill," she stated.
She originally made plans with LaFerrara online to have sexual intercourse for $100. They reportedly met in a parking lot of a mall, then drove to Sunbury.
Barbour tested LaFerrara before allegedly committing the murder by telling him she'd just turned 16 years old.
"He told me that it was OK," she told the Daily Item. "If he would have said no, that he wasn't going to go through with the arrangement, I would have let him go."
She reportedly stabbed LaFerrara 20 times while Elytte strangled the 42-year-old with a cord from the back seat.
Police are now investigating both the evidence and Barbour's testimony, to see whether her claims are true.
Chief Steve Mazzeo told USA Today this week that a crew from his department was talking to "various state and federal agencies to determine the veracity," of Barbour's confession.
If they are found guilty, both Elytte and Miranda could face the death penalty.
